LOG ENTRY: THE "OUTLAW" SECTOR
Timestamp: Day 4, 14:00
Location: Kanto Region (Designation: Slums Variation)
Explorer: DexHunter Ace
I touched down in Pallet Town expecting the usual routine: grab a starter, beat a rival, catalogue the local fauna. I was wrong. The Official Intel was scrambled—this isn't the work of Architect 1158. This is the Outlaw simulation. The atmosphere here is toxic, gritty, and completely disregards the pristine nature of a standard Pokémon journey. For a completionist, it’s a nervous breakdown waiting to happen.
THE LANDSCAPE: URBAN DECAY
The first thing you notice? The infrastructure is gone. The local government has paved over the biodiversity hotspots. No Viridian Forest. No Mt. Moon. Do you know what that means for my Pokedex? It means I spent three hours hyperventilating because I couldn't find a Clefairy spawn where it was supposed to be. From an efficiency standpoint, skipping these dungeons is a speedrunner's dream. For a Collector? It's anarchy.
The cities have been converted into "Slums." While visually distinct—and frankly, hilarious in a dark, twisted way—it makes navigating for hidden items a nightmare. I found myself checking trash cans not for Leftovers, but just to see what weird dialogue the locals would spit at me.
THE CATCHABILITY REPORT
Here is the data that matters. The Pokedex is largely standard Kanto/Johto fare, but the distribution is chaotic. Because the map has been surgically altered to remove "boring" areas, the spawn tables are condensed.
- Availability: Most trade evolutions seem to require standard methods, which is a pain without a patched ROM base.
- Anomalies: The "Romantic Relationship" side-quest. It offers no Pokedex entries, yet consumes valuable grinding time.
- Threat Level: High. The Police and Government agents here function as rival trainers. Their AI isn't advanced, but their dialogue cuts deep.
FIELD NOTE: Missable event warning! Save before entering the cave near the endgame. The narrative here is linear and aggressive. If you miss a Legendary or a unique encounter because you were laughing at a dialogue box, it’s gone forever. That is a 0/10 mechanic in my book.
VERDICT: A VACATION, NOT A EXPEDITION
This region wasn't built for the Living Dex; it was built for the drama. I spent less time hunting shinies and more time reading text boxes about corruption and crime. It’s a refreshing palate cleanser, but my neurological need for a 100% completion screen was left unsatisfied. The lack of modern QoL features (like an accessible Nature changer or DexNav) hurts.
However, I must admit: the twist at the Pokemon League? Genuinely shocked me. I almost dropped my Game Boy. Almost.
100% completion took me 35 hours. Short, punchy, and dirty. Just don't expect to fill box #493 here.
